Frequently Asked Questions:

LOLA market is a community marketplace for sustainable and local consumption.
Our vision: use products for longer (LOLA stands for long-lasting) instead of buying new. Share, swap or pass things on – within your community, rather than shipping them across Europe.

Your community. Your marketplace. We create digital spaces for local cycles and conscious consumption.

Community is the heart of LOLA. At the core of our community features are groups (private, closed and open) in which members can share, give away or sell their products among themselves.

Examples of community features include:
Your own mini marketplaces within the group
Access to listed products of other group members
Group chats for direct exchange and shared use

This is how local, trusted cycles emerge.

LOLA is for:
private individuals
businesses
associations

Using the app is free of charge in principle: registering, listing, giving away, selling and free rentals cost nothing. Only rentals for a fee, booked through the calendar, are chargeable. A service fee of 9 % applies, with a minimum of € 1.50 net plus VAT. It is paid by the renter and shown before the booking is made.

You can list virtually any second-hand or sustainably produced item. Our initial focus areas are:
Event Technology
Musical Instruments
Photo & Video
Sports & Sports Equipment
Building, Garden & Workshop
Books, Films & Music
Fashion & Accessories
Toys & Games
Festivals
Baby & Child
Living & Household

On LOLA you can:
sell
give away
rent out (free of charge or for a fee)
swap (coming a little later)

It is all about using your products for longer and more intensively.

There are two types of listing:
Offers: you offer something.
Search listings: you are looking for something specific and post what you need.

LOLA takes work off your hands. Autofill captures your items in seconds: category, title, description including characteristics and a suggested price are proposed automatically. For this we evaluate the photos you upload automatically. All suggestions are non-binding and can be changed at any time. Which services we use for this is set out in our privacy policy.

LOLA is developed by a team in Vienna — self-funded, complemented by a grant from Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws). Our goal is to use products for longer and more intensively and to make consumption more local. You can read more under About us; the operator is LOLA market FlexCo — details in the imprint.

LOLA already integrates various payment options. You book and pay for rentals for a fee directly in the app — with a stored card or with Klarna, processed via our payment provider Stripe.

We are already working on shipping options and an insurance solution. Until then, the statutory provisions of the Austrian Civil Code (ABGB) apply to rentals — who is liable for damage is set out below.

You choose a free period in the listing’s calendar and send a request. The contract is concluded as soon as the lender confirms.

Pickup and return times are preset and can be adjusted for each booking. We remind you one day before pickup and one day before return. At handover and return you record the product’s condition in the app, and at the end you can rate each other.

When you make the request, you store a payment method; payment is only made at product pickup. We collect the amount as soon as you both confirm the product pickup in the app. Before that, the amount may already appear as pending on your account — it has not yet been charged. If the booking does not come about, nothing is charged.

When the amount actually leaves your account depends on the payment method:
with a credit card, with your next card statement,
with Klarna, according to the option you chose in the Klarna checkout — for example immediately, in 30 days or in instalments.

As a lender, you receive your money as soon as both sides have confirmed the return. This requires completed verification with the payment provider — without it, the amount remains as a credit balance.

You will find the receipt for the service fee with the respective rental in the app.

Up to six days before the rental starts, cancellation is free of charge — for both sides, regardless of the chosen payment method. If you book at shorter notice, the booking is binding once confirmed.

After that, only renters can cancel, up to 24 hours before the rental starts; a cancellation fee of 100 % applies. For lenders, cancellation is not provided for from this point on. If something comes up nonetheless, get in touch — we will look at each case individually.

Damage and theft during the rental period should be reported promptly via the app.

Damage that only becomes apparent after the return must be reported by lenders within seven days — after that, the product is deemed to have been returned in proper condition.

If a product is not returned at all, please let us know as soon as possible.

Lending and renting are governed in Austria by the ABGB (Austrian Civil Code). These statutory provisions also apply between the renting-out user and the renter on LOLA market.

As a marketplace, we are working on integrating additional insurance cover. Until then, the statutory provisions of the ABGB apply to damage and loss.

Before handover: check the condition of the product together. In the app you record it at handover and at return — this creates clarity and protects both sides.

If something is damaged or lost: whoever culpably causes damage or loss — for example through carelessness or improper use — must compensate for it (sec 1295 ABGB).

Examples:
(1) coffee is spilled over the keyboard of a borrowed laptop.
(2) a borrowed device is left unattended and stolen.
In such cases the renter generally has to compensate for the damage incurred.

In brief:
(1) normal wear and tear from the agreed use is borne by the renting-out user.
(2) damage or loss caused culpably (e.g. through carelessness, improper use or unauthorised passing on) must be compensated by the renter.
(3) accidental damage or loss without fault (e.g. force majeure or theft despite careful safekeeping) generally does not have to be compensated by the renter. However, if the product is used differently or for longer than agreed without consent, liability may still arise.

Please note: we provide a general overview of the legal situation here — this cannot replace legal advice in an individual case.

Yes. Whether a deposit is required for renting out a product is agreed between the renting-out user and the renter on their own responsibility. The amount of the deposit, the method of payment and the conditions for repayment or any retention are determined exclusively between the contracting parties.

LOLA market is not involved in these agreements, does not administer deposits and accepts no responsibility or liability for them.

LOLA market is more than buying and selling: community instead of an anonymous platform, circularity instead of a throwaway mentality, sharing instead of owning, local instead of Europe-wide shipping.

Plus things classic marketplaces do not offer: rentals with calendar booking, in-app payment and mutual reviews.

Come as you are!
We look forward to each and every user!
